Dental Cavity

To prevent the need for root canal treatments, one must remember that every case needing a root fill,other than those involving injury, started with a tiny bit of tooth decay.

Your child's first visit to the dentist should be by the age of two or three. Although baby teeth will eventually fall out, they are very important to your child's dental development and oral health. Cavity harbor bacteria which can result in more cavities.

Bacteria do not eat processed sugars because of the lack of nutrients found in them. In fact, sugars are processed not only to prevent spoilage, but also to prevent consumption by bacteria. It does not make sense that these nutrient-void sugars which destroy bacteria in the normal world, somehow miraculously become food for bacteria once in your mouth.

Dried fruit products such as raisins might make for a nourishing snack or gratify the need for something sweet after a meal, be mindful that their sticky nature makes them to prone to stick to dental tooth surfaces, allowing bacteria present in the mouth to feed off the sugars, promoting plaque development and ensuing dental tooth decay.

Make dental visits a positive experience. As a parent, don’t influence your child with you own hang ups about dental care. Routine dental visits at our office aren’t uncomfortable so there is no need to share your past experiences and issues with your child. Even a well intentioned parent might think she is helping by “letting the kids know what’s going to happen”.

Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces, filling the pits and fissures of the teeth. A sealant acts as a barrier. It protects the teeth from plaque and it's acid by-products. Dental crowns can be temporary or permanent. A temporary one is readily available in your dentist's clinic. As the name suggests, it is placed in the tooth cavity for temporary coverage from food particles. When you bit hard food, your temporary dental crowns will most likely disintegrate.

Some teeth will be in very bad shape, but can be saved by means of a root canal. The cost of a root canal can be in the high hundreds, and possibly in the thousands of dollars. Some teeth which cannot be saved will have to be extracted. A ballpark cost for tooth extraction is between $75 and $150, although special situations and complications could run that cost even higher, of course.

Another remedy for toothache is in the use of clove, which lessens pain. It also helps decrease infection due to its antibacterial properties. Clove oil, applied to a cavity in a decayed tooth, also reduces toothache. Use a paste of zinc oxide powder and clove oil to fill the cavity in the aching tooth, also preventing food materials from accumulating in the cavity. Peel and crush a clove of fresh garlic and mix it with peanut butter. Apply it to the aching tooth and keep it there for some time.
